The Kitchen by Chef Chris

The rise of buffet restaurants here in Baguio is continuous and all I want to do is try them all!

The Kitchen has an all day buffet:

Breakfast 6:30 am - 10:30 am (Php199)
Lunch 11:00 am to 2:00 pm (Php 229)
Dinner 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm (Php 249).

I came here for breakfast three times within a 2-month period because of the tub of taho that always makes me crave for it! I went on different days to check if the food changes and it does. Main stay are their garlic longganisa, omelet, vegetable salad, bread and jellies, cereals, and the hearty taho (which is a unique touch on their buffet).

I find the food quality average but so far this is the best affordable (Php 199) breakfast buffet I'v been to. The food is not oily and though the selection's limited, the comfort and homely feeling of the place compensates my expectations. Plus, waiters and waitresses are friendly.

Here's some snaps of my second breakfast buffet visit and a dinner that was ordered from the menu.

The Food

taho all you can!!! ^_^
ham; garlic longganisa
carbonara; ground meat (comes with nacho sauce I think)
fish fillet with fried noodles; hotdogs
vegetable salad
bread and jellies; cereals
champorado; coffee

And here's for dinner:

Egg Drop Soup (Php 98)

It has that instant soup kind of taste, single order is served in two bowls.

Roasted Pumpkin Soup (Php 98)

Creamy and tasty, single order served in two bowls.

Krispy Kilawing Kambing (Php 268)

Doesn't have the goat smell and literally tastes like chicken. I like the crispy twist they infused with the good old kilawin.

Ox Tail Kare-Kare (Php 288)

Vegetables are crispy and sweet, good thing the peanut sauce is neutral.

Roasted Pork Ribs with Homemade Barbecue Sauce (Php278)

Not a fan of sweet viands and I find nothing special about it. .

Chicken Tenders (Php 228)

Sorry to say but it's dry and bland. I asked for the sauce, they gave soy and calamansi. Asked for ranch dressing, it was again too sweet. Chewing on the fried noodles made it all better ;)

Vietnamese Salad Rolls (Php 138)

Could have been better, still an average score for this.

The Kitchen's Burger (Php 168)

I didn't taste this so can't write something here :)

The Kitchen Iced Tea (Php 48/glass)

It's more of the brewed tea taste, yummy!

IhawJuan: Grill And Eat All You Can Inihaw

Buffet is so in, can't help but try them all!

Promo price is Php 199 for lunch, based on the poster original price is Php 399.

IhawJuan is divided into two . One side is smokeless grill with shabu-shabu and the other side is the real grill deal: Charcoal grill in the middle of each table. We went here around 1pm and the place was jam packed. I really didn't like the charcoal grill side coz it's literally eating in the middle of smoke.

The smokeless side of the dining area, as expected, was vacant so we stayed there instead. Downside, the buffet table is not complete as compared to the smokey room.

Food was good, Php 199 well spent. We also had the hot pot and they serve refillable pitcher of juice too. The space is small and not that clean though. But it's worth the try. Kids below 12 y/o has a 20% discount.

Here are some snaps. Lunch buffet was almost over so trays were almost empty as well.

Kebab Konner Resto + Lounge

Kebab Konner, my friend, is definitely a must try restaurant especially if you're like me who's so fond of flavorful food -- lots of herbs and spices kind of flavor.

I noticed during my two visits, most of the diners have shawarma or kebab on their plate. Do yourself a favor and don't be afraid to try out something different. There's a lot that Mediterranean cuisine has to offer.

Stay away from the iced tea once and try the lassi (yogurt drink). I always order something with paneer (cheese: Indian cooking), especially if I can't decide on what to have coz everything on the menu's so alien to me.

I'll surely be back for more. I prefer to order one dish at a time for every visit, so the strong flavors won't mess up my joyful taste buds.

Don't be fooled by the price on the menu. Everything's good for sharing and have chapati instead of rice, always perfect with these dishes! This is my first time giving a perfect 5 on all of my satisfaction levels ;) (and still can't stop blabbering)...

Here's what I tried and a glimpse of the place. BTW, excellent service too. A long wait for the food though but definitely worth it. They even gave a complementary papadum coz of the long wait.

The Food

complementary papadum

Paneer Tikka (Php 260)

The menu said diced cottage cheese marinated with Indian tandoori masala and yogurt, so I was expecting diced: like thumb nail like sizes. The actual size is jaw dropping coz I'd think it was tofu. But it's cheese alright. All those flavors bursting in my mouth! Perfect with chapati. I love it!!!

Chapati (Php 40/ pc)

Never underestimate a chapati. Looks thin but it is indeed filling, and always perfect for saucy dishes. This is gorgeous.

(Half) Tandoori Chicken (Php280)

It looks dry but it's moist, soft, perfectly grilled, and full of flavor.

Plain Rice (Php 100)

I know the price is bizarre for plain rice, I even expected it to be just a cup. The best rice I ever tasted! Long grain and tasty; and it was a platter. I have to thank my son for this coz he was the one who wanted it.

Lassi (Php 100)

I got the salted one and it's yummy. Though I find it too creamy and the finely shaved ice easily melts, giving me the impression of just having fresh milk. I have a comparison for a better yogurt shake, but since it's too far I'll settle for this :)

**The glass is taller in reality.
